This file is part of the Google Chrome update process - when a new version is downloaded, the actual executable is renamed to old_chrome.exe and a new to chrome.exe. Problem is, that this old mess is resting on Your PC without deletion and user should remove it manually. Check more info on http://www.raymond.cc/blog/remove-outdated-google-chrome-files/

SAFErating from user Arthur Crout for file %PROGRAMFILES%\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe (Variant: 18440866)
The standard Google Chrome(dot)exe is a harmless file when found in its original location within your PC, however, the above people forgot to mention one thing. Chromium spawns children. The one exe can have over 20 children who will start to consume your system rescources. I have seen on my system 45 children. But I have a stupid ammount of extensions so the mother/main google.exe makes duplicates of itself. Which is normal. And if you left the box checked , google.exe will run in the background when you are not even using it. I turn that option off first thing first. Not for bandwidth purposes, but for logic's sake. If I didn't turn you on, I don't want you on. Don't do any "to enhance my experience" BS on my rig.
