This dynamic linking library is part of the Authentication Security Components (Windows Embedded), marked as Net Logon Services DLL. In Windows XP Professional, Session Manager, Smss.exe, is the first user-mode process created in the system. Session Manager in turn launches the Windows subsystem process and the standard Windows logon process. Authentication is the process of a principal, a user, group, or service, or a device validating its identity to another principal or device. Windows Embedded Standard includes all of the Windows XP Professional authentication security components.
