Previously known as Dr. Watson, the ersvc.dll module is now known as the Windows Error Reporting (WER) library that was introduced with Windows XP. It runs as a Windows service that provides post-error debug information to the developer when the application crashes or stops responding on a user's desktop. By using the Internet, the ersvc.dll DLL sends the memory dump to Microsoft where it is analyzed and a solution is sent back to the user, if available, using the Windows Error Reporting Responses. If the service itself crashes, an error reports that the original crashed process cannot be sent.
