Fact is it is useless to me so it must be working for someone else. That's not acceptable, it's my computer, my information ...

Freemake video downloader doesn't require this capturelibservice : I've just tried now by disactivating this service on Win XP, then launching Freemake video downloader and it download on youtube normaly ! This freemake package seems very suspicious ! Why having to instal a capturelibservice when it's not used by the video downloader !!!

  • SAFErating from user MikeOne (Variant: 14819864)

This utility -CaptureLibService- is mostly used in third-party applications and mostly in the Freemake CaptureLib module - this applicatin is a part of the freeware apps for video processing or downloading/capturing (see more on http://www.freemake.com/free_video_downloader/). What they say about this module : "Freemake Video Capture is a necessary component of Freemake Video Downloader. It analyzes information coming from a video web page in order to detect the video source. Thus, the program quickly picks up the needed video file when a user pastes a URL for download. Due to this service, video download from almost any website becomes possible. Please don't disable Freemake Video Capture because the software will stop functioning." Some users reported slow performance when this utility is on, which can be caused by the internet connection and streamed download.

  • THREATrating from user Remington for file %PROGRAMFILES%\Freemake\CaptureLib\CaptureLibService.exe (Variant: 3051703)

For some reason this process tried to access the network when I've turned on xChat-WDK (IRC Client). I do not understand why as I've installed it with Freemake Video Downloader (along with winpcap) so I don't get why it does connect while FVD is not even launched. Moreover, FVD had pretty much requests to access different connections, files and even secured COM port (quite unusual). As I can't find any reliable info about this process I mark it as Thread, for safetly.

----------------- I left my computer turned all night to download something. Result, I get up and a "capturelibservice" takes me 99% CPU and I struggled to close it so it did slow down my computer. For me, this is not a good process ...

  • SAFErating from user flash for file %PROGRAMFILES%\Freemake\CaptureLib\CaptureLibService.exe (Variant: 3051703)

It seems that the free tool called "Freemake Video Downloader" from freemake.com installs quite a bit in the background. There's this capturelibservice.exe and then there's also a Winpacp, which is a tool/library to capture network traffic. At least this service is always on in the background, even when the Video Downloader isn't even running. On my PC it goes from 10 to 30 MB of RAM usage with no activity from the Video Downloader at all. It's possible that the tool is doing some hidden work, maybe based on the amount of network traffic, because we shouldn't see such large deviations during an idle period.
