User Reviews of the "netsession_win.exe"

  • THREATrating from user Patrik (Variant: 2703197)

Constantly restarts itself, fails to uninstall, sends logfiles to akamai's servers (without knowledge or interaction of the user) and it installed itself without any permission by me, or leaving any trace as to what it was bundled with. If you're on Win7, go to "C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Akamai" just take a look at the logfiles and others. you'll find stuff like "LogfileUploadURL=http://log.client.akadns.net/logs/" in the client.ini, ""eulaAccepted":true" in the euc_state.json (which is certainly NOT true), "V1001:111104_004920: [info] Installer.cpp:_ak_uploadLogs(2368): Uploading C:/Users/[my username]/AppData/Local/Akamai/installer.txt to http://124.40.51.155:80/logs/b5b6f1a119a[...]d11951ad642b06.log" in install.txt ^with NO user interaction or knowledge about that whatsoever. The cryptic code (in my case b5b6f1a...) is a unique GUID to identify each and every installation of their "tool". Everyone gets a unique ID and can be tracked back. Not to mention it uploads the file where my windows username can be seen in plain text. No threat for those who put nicknames in there, but a lot of people use their full name for that. And you still call this goodware or safe? To this day, i have no f*ckin clue what software it originally came with. I don't use netflix (not available in germany anyways), nor itunes or adobe reader (which have been said to have it bundled to them). In fact, i haven't installed ANY software in the past 3 weeks, so it must've been on my computer for a long time, sending stuff to some random company without my knowdledge. This is borderline spyware if you ask me.. and i'm not even sure if it's really borderline anymore, as it installed without my knowledge, gave my computer a unique ID to be tracked back, uploaded a file where my username can be seen in plain text without my knowledge or interaction multiple times, and refuses/fails to uninstall in a normal way.

it constantly tries to connect to the internet and is trying to upload data it installs without notice it acts like a virus and should be treated as one if they want us to use the program they can advertise like the rest of p2p clients do
