Software Director (assigned process: softdir.exe) by Italian company Cloanto Corporation (i.e. Michael Battilana) comes with 100% legal emulation packages Amiga Forever and C64 Forever. It's designed to offer additional software (like KX Light or Amiga Explorer) as well as updates to those emulation packages. I trust Michael battilana and Cloanto 100% as my user experience has been positive over all these years (I'm a returning customer). Updates and additional software are purely optional. You get the message + either choose to update or just completely ignore it. This is service as it should be.
If you choose to disable that process in autostart (which is entirely possible) keep in mind that you won't receive updates any more. I recommend in this case just to deactivate the startup entry (so you can reactivate it again later should you change your mind).
