The Internet Explorer PNG plugin image decoder has the pngfilt.dll module for its DLL. The PNG stands for the Portable Network Graphics. It refers to the bitmapped image format which uses lossless data compression. This means that the PNG allows an original data to be reconstructed and modified from a compressed data. It is an alternative to a GIF format, and it is more convenient to use since no patent license will be required any longer. The acronym is also recursive which can also stand for PNGs Not GIF. In contrast to GIF images, PNG can accommodate larger compressions and has a wider variety of transparencies and color depth. The function of the pngfilt.dll module is to achieve the features of the bitmapped image format. The module is one of the smaller applications, which make possible the functions of the PNG. However, the pngfilt.dll module can't be really of use to any animations since the PNG does not support them.
