The module dmserver.dll contains functions for the implementation of Logical Volume Manager. In line with computer storage, Logical Volume Management or LVM is a method wherein a user can allocate space on mass storage devices that is more flexible and customize according to the need in size compared to conventional partitioning schemes. In using the module dmserver.dll, a volume manager can concatenate, stripe together or otherwise combine disk partitions into larger virtual ones that can be resized whenever it is needed or moved to other location, possible while it is being used. It is with this structure that Volume Management is one of the many forms of storage virtualization which is the one implemented as a layer in the operating system disk driver stack.
