I have been using this on multiple user and admin accts on both a Win7 Home Premium and a WinXP SP3 machine, the former a Gateway NV54 and the latter a Lenovo T61 Model 6465CTO. Have tried installing a separate copy to execute for each user, and have been having some lockup/false overheats when running multiple copies in XP. No issues, sits in taskbar, pops up and down to compact summary screen, seems to do what I want it to do, and I don't see any adverse effects, (and I do monitor my machine pretty closely -- shields are up, phasers are ready, config tightly controlled and reviewed. I say it is a system file because it needs admin privileges to hook into the status registers of the CPU to get the temp readings and to force, e.g., hibernate, or could sleep, or could ignore and melt, whatever you want within reason. But I find it useful, although I can get the monitor, but not the shutdown control, from, e.g., Speccy or System Explorer, two more tools I like in addition to things like Comoda IS, Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes & SuperAntiSpyware cleanup tools. Speccy has a single combined CPU temp reading, and system explorer really shows you what is what, and automatically checks online to see if files/processes/services are believed good or bad. Use the tool, and if on XP, try running all from a single directory, every users invoking the same process, which then might coordinate the resources between the users. On Win7 try installing CoreTemp at startup, it might have defaulted to working on login, if I remember correctly. But it seems a most righteous and powerful single purpose monitor AND control device for the user seriously concerned about CPU heating,which can and does happen when running heavy loads for an extended period of time.
