To mistercz or anyone who knows: I just bought a new 64-bit laptop, and I'm installing all my necessary software on it right now. When I downloaded SE from the main site, and then I attempted to install it on Windows 7, it wanted to install itself in the "Program Files (x86)" folder or whatever it's called. I'm not positive, but does this mean this version is the 32-bit version of SE, or is it the 64-bit version, but it just defaults to that folder during installation? Anyway, I've searched the forum, but the search function doesn't seem to work for me, so I couldn't find the other posts about 64-bit compatibility with SE... If somebody could please tell me if there is only 1 version of SE, and it's compatible with BOTH 64 and 32 bit machines, or if I have to find a separate version somewhere for 64-bit computers. Also, if somebody could please tell me why SE wants to install itself in the x86 folder, that would be highly appreciated.
Sorry for delays with answer.. Machine where I develop System Explorer has 64-bit Windows 7. So, the System Explorer runs on 64-bit os, with few limitations. I will not explain this limitations, because all limitations should be removed in version 3.8. This version is in beta, but will be released soon.
System Explorer 3.8 contains all-in-one solution for 32-bit and 64-bit OS. User interface runs as 32-bit process which uses 64-bit service for 64-bit operations. The installation directory could remain Program Files (x86), because used installer is 32-bit application.
