I (very) strongly agree. That service ("that" being DriverAgent) is in fact paid, and as I mentioned a while ago, is not very accurate on certain computers. Filehippo or some other site would be better, but please; anything but DriverAgent!!
You can hide DriverAgent and forget about it. Why do you insist on eliminating it? By the fact, DriverAgent is a good diagnostic tool. Nobody requires that you pay and use it for updating your drivers.
filehippo have their own free software scanner as pinosilvestre mentioned, and cnet downloads have techtracker, has a free and paid version, only difference between 2 is paid version allows you to set where it downloads its updates to, freeware doesn't, but actual software allows you to scan and download the updated softwares completely free.
Sad. There is a lot of junk programs that supposedly allow you to check the relevance of your software (sometimes even the drivers)... But they all need to be installed to make sure that they don't work as was claimed.
