Came with my Asus laptop. Judging from what I've found, it's safe, but the question is: can I disable it to reduce my laptop's boot speed? Or should I leave it as it is?

This utility is preinstalled on several ranges of notebooks (Asus, HP...). It comes along with the driver for the "Alcor Micro USB 2.0 Card Reader" which is installed as an USB storage drive. When you insert a Flash card in the reader, it will select the appropriate icon to display in the Windows Shell browser (because this card dreader drive support multiple types of flash cards). Beside this, the autorun application is not really necessary as Windows 7 will provide the icon itself. It is safe, but you probably don't need it on Windows 7. The only driver needed for the USB card reader is found in the same directory (for the source of installation) and is named "AmUStor.SYS" (along with "AmUStor.inf" for the driver installation instructions, and "AmUStor.cat" for the secure catalog digitaly signed by Microsoft WHCL). Only these files will be installed in the Windows System32 directory and run at boot.
